Whether your a first-time pet owner or the proud parent of a furkid (or two!), the volunteers of Joyrides Rescue are ready to help you through the adoption process. It's easier than you think! Below are some commonly asked questions and answers about adopting a dog or cat from Joyrides Rescue.
How do I meet with an animal I like?
If you find an animal online or have talked with our volunteers about an animal that fits what you are looking for, the first step is to complete an application. A volunteer will then contact you for next steps!
Why don't you list a telephone number online?
As a foster-based rescue with no employees, we are all volunteers who work full-time at our "regular" job. The large volume of inquiries we receive would be too overwhelming for any one of our volunteers to answer calls so we instead ask that you contact us via email. We thank you your patience and understanding.
What is the adoption fee?
The adoption fees are as follows:
Houston-area adoptions: $200 for dogs and $100 for cats (you must pick up the pet in Houston)
Non-Houston adoptions: $495 for dogs, $150 for cats and $200 for kittens
The adoption fee includes all vaccinations, spay/neuter and microchip. There is a $10 microchip registration fee for each pet. For non-Houston adoptions, your adoption fee also includes transportation and all costs associated with getting your new pet to you!
Do you have a shelter I can visit?
No, we do not. All of our pets are in foster homes or we pay to board them at private vet clinics or boarding kennels. Joyrides also does not have employees. Both of our co-Directors and all of our fosters work full-time jobs and have families and responsibilities. Please be patient with us!
How long does the process take?
We process apps as quickly as possible. The length of time it takes for your new furkid to arrive is based on the availability of you and our volunteers to schedule a meet and greet and the transport scheduled trips and availability of space.
Why do I need to fill out an application?
The adoption application provides us with necessary information to assist in the placement of our dogs into their forever homes. The information you provide helps us to make sure that your home and it's environment matches the needs or requirements of the rescue dog you are interested in adopting.
How much does Joyrides pay it staff and employees?
Joyrides Rescue is an all volunteer group. There are no employees or staff members. We are a 501c3 non-profit. No person associated with Joyrides Rescue receives any salary or payment for the time they volunteer. In addition to Joyrides, we all have full time jobs and/or families. That means sometimes we may not get back to your emails right away. Please be patient and we will work hard to find your next 4 legged family member.
Why does the adoption contract ask for my drivers license number and date of birth?
We are dedicated to finding safe and loving homes for our rescued animals. The adoption contract is a legally binding document and we require some legal identifiers before signing the agreement. We do not require your SSN.
I need to surrender my family pet, can you take them?
Unfortunately, Joyrides is not set up to accept animals from the public.
