MEET MAX!

This Giving Tuesday, we are featuring our boy Max! Max was a cruelty case that was taken to the city shelter after his owner ran over him with his car - on purpose! The story is he asked Max to 'sit' and Max didn't. So as punishment he hit him with his car, and then backed over him again. Thankfully, an officer witnessed the attack and the abuser was arrested. And Max was taken to the shelter where he received palliative care while he waited for a rescue to save him! That's where Joyrides comes in! Max was taken to our vet and a few days later to the specialist. Max has had a broken leg before - in his back leg. It was never treated and healed on it's own, but because it was never set right, it isn't fully functional. Because of the previous injury, we decided, with his doctors, to try to save his front leg instead of amputating it. On October 22nd, 2021, Max underwent a 6 hour surgery! The break is so close to the joint that the original plan of pins and plates just wasn't working. So the surgical team installed an external fixator. They also stitched in "grommets" around the wound on his hip that would be used to keep the wound covered while it healed. He came home to his foster mom 3 days later and has been slowly healing. From not using his leg at all to now just a slight limp, he has just blossomed! We have learned so much about him! He LOVES snacks and treats, a good nap, a soft bed, toys and walks. And he is obsessed with the squirrels in the yard that sit high on the fence and cheer him on in his recovery! He is friendly with everyone he meets, especially kids! He loves a good belly rub, head pats and ear scratches. On November 21st, two months after the incident, the wound on his hip finally closed up and scabbed over. He was very happy to get that bandage removed! He also had his staples removed from the surgical incision. The external fixator will stay on for another 1-3 weeks and we can't wait for him to be able to take his cone off - he hates it!

Your donations is why we can save dogs like Max. This Tuesday we ask that you help support our work in 2022 so that we can continue to care for these precious souls like Max that get dealt a bad hand in life. We are committed to showing them nothing but love for the rest of their days. Showing them how much they matter and healing their broken bodies. Thank you for supporting Joyrides Rescue and being part of Max's story!
